Club History
The Sampson County Amateur Radio Services was formed in November 1988. A letter was sent to Sampson County hams plus a couple of out of county hams notifying them that a new amateur radio club was being formed and that this was their chance to become a charter member. Hams were informed that the Southeastern Repeater Association (SERA) had assigned a frequency to go on the air with and that they would also be listed in the repeater journal.
An organizational meeting was held at Charlie’s Restaurant in Clinton on Saturday, November 19, 1988. Recipients were told that officers would be elected, committees formed, and by-laws formulated. At their February 1989 meeting, the club approved a plan for securing an antenna and a two-meter repeater at an estimated cost of $5,000.
